During Guardium appliance patch installation CLI shows error "ERROR: can't execute MySQL server has gone away"

Troubleshooting

Problem

The following error message appears when a CLI command is run while a patch installation is running: "ERROR: can't execute MySQL server has gone away"

Symptom

When installing a patch it is useful to check the output of the CLI command "show system patch install" to check the progress. The above error may temporarily appear instead of the expected output.

Cause

Some patches require the internal Guardium database to be restarted. When the database is turned off, the CLI commands do not work.

If you run CLI commands during this time, you will get the above error.

Resolving The Problem

Simply wait for the database to restart and the CLI commands should again work.

If you notice this issue for an extended period of time, please contact support.
