IBM Support

Does Guardium STAP support this new Linux kernel?

Question & Answer

Question

I plan to upgrade Linux to a version with a new kernel. Does IBM Security Guardium have a compatible KTAP for this kernel?

Answer

The Guardium team maintains a list of supported kernels. It is available on Fix Central.

  1. Login to IBM Fix Central
  2. Select Guardium, v9 or v10 and Linux.
  3. Select "Browse for fixes".
  4. Select the "KTAP bundle" link
  5. Download "KTAP_List_of_Modules_v10 (All v10.x)"

Inside is the most current list of supported kernels. There is a similar file for v11.

IMPORTANT! The latest STAP installer on Fix Central might not contain all of the latest KTAPs. When Guardium adds support for a new kernel, IBM does not create a new STAP version. Instead, we build a KTAP Bundle. For example, this STAP version ...

Guardium_10.1.3_S-TAP_RedHat-6-7_r102091

... was updated with new kernel support and published as:

Guardium_KTAP_10.0_rhel-6-linux-s390x_r102091_2017-12-13

The KTAP bundle is a complete STAP installer. The STAP code is identical, we just added more KTAPs. If you need the most recent KTAP, download the KTAP Bundle instead of the STAP package. You do not need to install the STAP package first, use the KTAP bundle file to install or upgrade STAP exactly as you would with a new STAP version.

KTAP bundle files are on Fix Central next to the "KTAP_List_of_Modules" download link.
