Abstract
Different ITCAM names? How do I know which version I need?
Body
Have you ever wondered what the different ITCAM names mean? And what versions they refer to? And what J2EE servers they can monitor? (ITCAM = IBM Tivoli Composite Application Monitoring).
In a nutshell, here are the different ITCAM product names and versions supported:
WSAM (WebSphere Application Monitor) V3.1 / V3.2 - these are not supported anymore. Don't even look at them. I am just naming them here for historical reasons. It all started with these versions way back in the day.
ITCAM for WebSphere V6.1 - used to monitor WebSphere v6.1 and lower. This version is now unsupported.
ITCAM for J2EE V6.2 - used to monitor WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat, J2SE , NetWeaver. This version is supported until Sep 2015.
ITCAM for Application Diagnostics V7.1 - used to monitor WebSphere V7.x and higher. Currently a supported version.
ITCAM for WebSphere Applications V7.2 - used to monitor WebSphere v7.x, WebSphere 8.x and higher. Currently a supported version.
ITCAM for Applications J2EE Monitoring Agent V7.1.1 - used to monitor WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat, J2SE with JRE 1.7 support. Supported version.
You can access the supported Middleware/OS versions along with end-of-support dates and other details at this Software Compatibility Matrix link:

- on the left side, go to "Detailed System Requirements" and enter your product there
If you know what you need and are ready to download the images, here are the ITCAM part numbers:

These are the names for the different ITCAM for WebSphere/AD/Apps/J2EE products along with their versions info. Note that there are also other ITCAM products (like Transactions, SOA), and the above ITCAM products may be bundled with these other ITCAM products (like Transactions, SOA, etc..) into a different e-assembly package name. We also have the new SmartCloud Application Performance Monitoring (SCAPM) and ITCAM for AD/Apps is a sub-component of this. Hope this info is useful to you. If you need help feel free to comment here or open a new pmr and we'll be glad to help you out.
Good luck!
