DB2 installation fails to create instance and DAS

Troubleshooting

Problem

DB2 installation might fail if the DB2 service userid (it is db2admin by default) does not already exist.

Symptom

The DB2 installation log file contains the following error message.

Action 11:59:07: DB2CustomAction. Creating the DB2 Administration Server
1: ERROR:An error occurred while creating the user "db2admin" for the DB2
Administration Server. The return value is "5150".

1: ERROR:One or more errors occurred while creating the DB2 Administration Server.
The DB2 Administration Server may not function properly. Create the DB2
Administration Server manually. If the problem persists contact your technical
service representative.

Environment

This problem will only occur in a Windows environment.

Diagnosing The Problem

The DB2 installation log file is located in the My Documents\DB2LOG\ directory. The log file uses the following format: DB2-ProductAbrrev-DateTime.log, for example, DB2-ESE-Tue Apr 04 17_04_45 2008.log.

Resolving The Problem

Create the db2admin userid manually before installing DB2.
