Database connection error: failed to establish connection. DOORS will now exit

Troubleshooting

Problem

When you try to start the DOORS client you receive the error message, "Database connection error: failed to establish connection. DOORS will now exit".

Symptom

The DOORS database service started. Other users are able to login to the DOORS client, but there is one user unable to login. The user who cannot login to DOORS is using version 9.3.0.4 and other users are using DOORS client 9.3.0.3.

Cause

The DOORS database has version limit set to minimum 9.3.0.3 and maximum 9.3.0.3.

Environment

Windows

Diagnosing The Problem

The DOORS database started with no problem and some users were able to login but some could not. For the users who cannot login to DOORS, they receive error message "Database connection error: failed to establish connection. DOORS will now exit".

Resolving The Problem

Make sure the DOORS database did not set a minimum version or a maximum version. Following are the steps to check client login version:

  1. Login to DOORS as an Administrator or Database Manager
  2. Right-click on the DOORS database and select "Properties..."; the "DOORS Properties" window will open
  3. Select the "Login Policy" tab
  4. Under the "Client Versions" session, make sure there is no version set for the "Minimum client version" and "Maximum client version" or make sure the correct version is set for the version limit
  5. Save and close the database properties

All the version within the limit show be able to login
