Data Collection from ASMI on an eBMC based System

How To

Summary

This document helps with collecting service data from the ASMI graphical user interface (GUI) on an eBMC based server.

Objective

For eBMC-based systems, the ASMI GUI can be used to collect system platform related events. Event logs, sensors data and LEDs status can be useful information for any platform-related error.

Environment

This document applies to  IBM POWER10 9043-MRX, 9105-41B, 9105-42A, 9786-42H, 9105-22A, 9105-22B, or 9786-22H systems.

Steps

- Connect to the eBMC GUI with the admin user profile.
If needed, you can use this link: Logging on to the ASMI GUI

If you encounter an issue with admin profile password, you can refer to the video in IBM MediaCenter web site : Lost Admin Password Recovery

1- Event Logs

Expand Logs section and select Event Logs.
Click Download All button which creates a .json file that can be upload to Ecurep.

Events logs

2- Sensors

  1. Expand Hardware Status and select Sensors.
  2. Sensor data is gathered in a few minutes. Once it is complete the blue bar at the top of the screen will disappear, the ITEMS counter will stop increasing. (see extract below)
  3. Use the search window to display the needed sensor data. To gather fan speeds search “RPM” and for AC power search “Input Voltage”.
  4. Click to place a checkmark in the top box to select on the items. Click Export button which creates a .json file that can be upload to Ecurep.

3- Inventory & LEDs

Use the following procedure to gather the data as a single html page.

  1. Expand Hardware Status and select Inventory and LEDs.
  2. Use Ctrl A, then Ctrl C on a windows PC or cmd A and cmd C on a MAC.
  3. Paste the data into a word-processing program and save it with a .htm extension.
  4. Check for any Health LED that is not green.
  5. Expand these LEDs entries to gather the details with a screen capture.
  6. Upload the files to Ecurep.

4- Deconfiguration resources

  1. Expand Hardware Status and select Hardware deconfiguration.
  2. If something is deconfigured then take a screen capture.
  3. Go to Deconfiguration Records screen (Logs => Deconfiguration records) and click “Export all” button.

deconfig

It creates a .json file that can be uploaded to Ecurep.
