CRLQE0490E Truncated change log detected. Data source may have truncated the change log. Failed to find last processed change event.

Troubleshooting

Problem

Attempts to reindex the "TRS 2.0 for DOORS Next Resources" data source in Lifecycle Query Engine (LQE) for IBM Jazz Reporting Services (JRS) fail, reporting the message: "CRLQE0490E Truncated change log detected. Data source may have truncated the change log. Failed to find last processed change event."

Symptom

This problem becomes evident when it is realized that Lifecycle Query Engine reports are not complete.
In addition, attempts to reindex the "TRS 2.0 for DOORS Next Resources" data source in Lifecycle Query Engine (LQE) for IBM Jazz Reporting Services (JRS)  fails with "CRLQE0490E Truncated change log detected. Data source may have truncated the change log. Failed to find last processed change event."

Cause

IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS Next performs an automatic incremental rebase of its TRS feeds regularly. Once every 15 days by default.  This process moves the log entries from the log to the base.
This process avoids the change log from growing indefinitely and being unmanageable.
The incremental rebase truncates the change log, a feed that contains recent changes, which results in this error when the duration of the LQE reindex exceeds the length of data held in the change log (15 days).

Diagnosing The Problem

See the Symptoms section.

Resolving The Problem

Updated May 2023 for versions 7.x of Engineering Lifecycle Management.
If an LQE reindex of the "TRS 2.0 for DOORS Next Resources" data source is expected to take more than a day, it is necessary to adjust the duration in which TRS data is retained by the IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS Next server. Increasing the values of these settings will avoid the error and ensure that all data is indexed properly.
There are three advanced properties that control this behavior. The properties are accessible under the /rm/admin > "Advanced Properties" page:
  1. TRS Rebase Interval
Default value: 1296000000 ms (15 days)
DOORS Next Server Restart Required: Yes

Controls the frequency in which the automatic incremental rebase is executed. Setting this property to zero suppresses the automatic incremental rebase and prevents the change log from being truncated. If LQE indexing has started for the "TRS 2.0 for DOORS Next Resources" data source, an administrator must adjust the TRS Change Log events span property to avoid encountering the error.

  2. TRS Change Log events span to retain during rebase
    Default value: 28 days
DOORS Next Server Restart Required: No

Setting this property controls the length of time in which the TRS Change Log (a feed that contains recent changes) is retained by the server. When you expect the LQE indexing to take more than 28 days, set this property to a larger value to ensure the complete feed is accessible by LQE during the indexing. When the indexing completes, set this value back to the default value.

  3. TRS CM Selections Compacting Interval
Default value: 12 hours (43200000 ms)
DOORS Next Server Restart Required: Yes

Controls the frequency of the automatic compaction for CM Selections versioned resources within the TRS feed.

To summarize, perform these steps before an initial LQE reindex for DOORS Next, where the indexing is expected to take longer than 24 hours.
  1. Set the TRS Rebase Interval to 0 (Zero)
  2. Set the TRS CM Selections Compacting Interval to 0 (Zero)
  3. Restart the DOORS Next server, for the first two changes to take effect.
  4. Set the TRS Change Log events span to retain during rebase to 30 days. If the reindex is expected to take longer than 30 days, set this value higher.

  5. When the LQE indexing completes, set the modified properties back to their defaults and restart the DOORS Next server when possible.
  • TRS Rebase Interval = 1296000000
  • TRS Change Log Events span to retain during rebase = 7
  • TRS CM Selections Compacting Interval = 43200000
Note: You must reset these values to their defaults once the reindex is complete.  Failure to reset the TRS CM Selections Compacting Interval, leads to an ever-increasing amount of time for LQE to process the uncompacted data.
