Credentials stored in repository are no longer valid after the upgrading C&DS 8.3 to C&DS 8.4

Question & Answer

Question

The upgrade Liberty version of C&DS 8.3 to C&DS 8.4 performed well. However, problem occurred when tried to connect to database from Modeler Client 18.4 by using the credential information stored in C&DS 8.4 repository. Could you tell me why the credentials stored in C&DS 8.4 repository are no longer valid after the upgrade from C&DS 8.3 to C&DS 8.4?

Cause

C&DS encrypted the credentials stored in repository by using JRE keystore. The Liberty version of C&DS 8.3 is using IBM Java 8 JRE. However, since the Liberty version of C&DS 8.4 is using OpenJDK Semeru 11 JRE, it no longer able to decrypt the stored credentials correctly, hence those credentials are no longer valid.

Answer

You need to correctly migrate the JRE keystore and use the new JRE keystore created during JRE keystore migration to perform the upgrade from C&DS 8.3. to C&DS 8.4.

In case if the C&DS already upgraded and you could not repeat the upgrade, or if there are only few credentials stored in the C&DS repository, it is recommended to delete those credentials and re-created them.
