Troubleshooting
Problem
Trying to copy a file or to create a new file into an Integrated File System directory fails when journaling is active on the directory. Messages CPF9802 and CPFA09C are received, indicating the user is not authorized.
Resolving The Problem
Trying to copy a file or create a new file into an Integrated File System (IFS) directory fails when journaling is active on the directory. Messages CPF9802 - Not authorized to object Journal_Name in Library_Name and CPFA09C - Not authorized to object. Object is /Directory_A/Directory_B/Directory_C/Some_File.txt are received.
Note: Any Journal Name (Journal_Name), Library Name (Library_Name), Directory Names (Directory_A, Directory_B, Directory_C) and file name (Some_File.txt) can appear in the messages. The names used in this document are used as variables.
The failure occurs when using Option 3 from the WRKLNK screen (or the CPY CL command) and also when using a Microsoft Windows Copy and Paste or Drag and Drop on a mapped IBM iSeries NetServer network drive.
The failure will occur only if INHERIT(*YES) was specified when STRJRN was run on the parent directory (if journaling was started using a CL command), or if Journal new files and folders was specified when starting journaling (if journaling was started using System i Navigator):
The failure will also occur if journaling was started using the IBM Navigator for i Web interface:
The failure occurs because neither the logged on user nor the user that mapped the iSeries NetServer network drive has *MGT authority to the journal (*JRN) that was specified when journaling was started on the parent directory. That same journal will be used when an attempt is made to journal the newly created Integrated File System object. Without *MGT authority to the journal, the copy or create will fail.
To prevent the failure, you should do one of the following:
o | Start journaling the parent directory from the command line with the STRJRN INHERIT(*NO) command, or do not select the option to Journal new files and folders from the System i Navigator or IBM Navigator for i interfaces. |
o | Give *PUBLIC *MGT authority (in addition to the default authority of *CHANGE and *OPR) to the journal, or give the specific users who need to copy or create files in the directory structure *CHANGE, *OPR, and *MGT authority to the journal. |
