This document includes information regarding IBM® Spectrum Protect™ for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware 8.1 compatibility with earlier releases.

- Refer to the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments Version 8.1: Data Protection for VMware Installation and User's Guide for detailed installation instructions and upgrade considerations before you attempt to install or update this product.
- It is important to ensure that the vSphere version is supported, see IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments - All Requirements Doc.
- Existing backups created by using previous versions of Data Protection for VMware can be mounted and restored by using Data Protection for VMware Version 8.1.
- New backups created with Data Protection for VMware Version 8.1 cannot be mounted or restored by using previous versions of Data Protection for VMware.
- Version 8.1.2 of the IBM Spectrum Protect vSphere Client plug-in does not support vSphere 5.5. You must use plug-in version 8.1.0 or earlier with vSphere 5.5. (internal reference #148664)
