Abstract

Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments: Data Protection for VMware and Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for VMware share some common components.

Thus it is important to install and upgrade to versions of the products that are compatible with each other.

Tip: Rebranding transition:
  • Beginning with Version 7.1.3, IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Virtual Environments is now IBM Spectrum Protect™ for Virtual Environments.
  • Beginning with Version 4.1.3, IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager is now IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot.

Note: Beginning with V8.1 IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot for VMware will not be delivered. Customers who want to use both products need to stay on following versions:
  • IBM Spectrum Protect™ for Virtual Environments Data Protection for VMware on V7.1.x
  • IBM Spectrum Protect™ Snapshot for VMware on V4.1.x
For compatibility supported combinations, see following tables.


Data Protection for VMware and FlashCopy Manager for VMware share some common components. As a result, customers who use both products must ensure that their installations of Data Protection for VMware and Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager for VMware are synchronized to the following digit of the respective product level:
  • 2nd digit for 6.3 and 6.4 releases
  • 3rd digit for 7.1 release
Attention: If the versions are not synchronized, the VMware GUI functionality of the product that was not updated will be disabled.


The following Data Protection for VMware and FlashCopy Manager for VMware combinations are compatible. All other combinations are not supported.
