Troubleshooting
Problem
After starting Cognos 11, the following "Warning" is repeated in the logs: Audit.RTUsage.cms.CM Warning null java.lang.NullPointerException at com.cognos.cm.search.indexing.IndexingTaskAction.getOp(IndexingTaskAction.java:70) at com.cognos.cm.search.indexing.IndexingTaskAction.execute(IndexingTaskAction.java:57) at com.cognos.cm.search.indexing.IndexingTaskHandler.executeActionOnItem(IndexingTaskHandler.java:34) at com.cognos.cm.backgroundTask.GenericTaskHandler.execute(GenericTaskHandler.java:114) at com.cognos.cm.backgroundTask.BackgroundTaskWorker.run(BackgroundTaskWorker.java:79) at java.util.concurrent.Executors$RunnableAdapter.call(Executors.java:522) at java.util.concurrent.FutureTask.run(FutureTask.java:277) at java.util.concurrent.ScheduledThreadPoolExecutor$ScheduledFutureTask.access$201(ScheduledThreadPoolExecutor.java:191) at java.util.concurrent.ScheduledThreadPoolExecutor$ScheduledFutureTask.run(ScheduledThreadPoolExecutor.java:304) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor.runWorker(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:1153) at java.util.concurrent.ThreadPoolExecutor$Worker.run(ThreadPoolExecutor.java:628) at java.lang.Thread.run(Thread.java:785)
Cause
Corrupt index.
Resolving The Problem
Rebuild the Cognos 11 index by following the steps below:
- Stop Cognos 11
- Navigate to the <cognos 11 install>\data\search folder
- In here you should find a folder named indices
- Rename this folder, or cut and paste it somewhere else
- Start Cognos 11. When you start Cognos, it will automatically re-create the index from the beginning.
