IBM Support

Cloud based Microsoft Exchange Server used for e-mail mailboxes - Sterling Gentran:Server for Microsoft Windows

Question & Answer

Question

Are cloud based e-mail servers supported in Gentran:Server for Windows?

Cause

Investigating moving from a physical, local Exchange server to a cloud based Exchange server hosted by Microsoft running Office 365/Exchange 2013.

Answer

- Outlook 2010 (32-bit) is supported when connecting to a cloud-based Exchange Server.

- Office 365 has not been tested. Best effort support will be extended.
- Office 365 profile uses an extension of .OST  (Older versions used .PST as the profile host) and one must remain for the MAPI side to work.
Success is limited when entering in the profile id in the Registry directly, and It is highly recommended using the Configuration > AuditNotification tab > Server > Notification tab UI
*Note that in Gentran Version 5.2 EDIMGR.exe or config.exe or ANconfig.exe must be launched with "Run As Administrator" for the UI to be in sync with the Registry.

Warning: Connecting to an outside Exchange Server can cause problems when starting Audit Notification Server. It is recommended to use POP3\SMTP instead of MAPI on the Audit Notification Setup. The SMTP address can be for the Exchange Server.
