Question & Answer
Question
I am trying to start a new installation of the CICS Explorer and it is failing to launch and creates a error log. The workspace is not built and the launch fails. The error log shows an exception java.lag.NoClassDefFoundError: com.mercury.ftjadin.hooks.interfaces.WToolkitHookQTJA
I am unable to start CICS Explorer. What would cause this exception?
Answer
Looking at the log, the key exception is:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: com.merucry.ftjadin.hooks.interfaces.WToolkitHookQTJA
This error is not specific to the CICS Explorer, but rather starting the Eclipse environment. The cause is something on your workstation has affected the Java global environment variables. The easiest way to resolve this is to tidy up the windows environment variables.
Please do the following:
Right click the Computer (previously My Computer) icon from your desktop
Click System Properties > Advanced System Settings > Environment Variables
Locate IBM_JAVA_OPTIONS and JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS in this list of System variables
Backup the values of these 2 variables to a notepad
Delete the IBM_JAVA_OPTIONS and JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS environment variables from the list of System variables
Click OK
