Troubleshooting


Problem

A new installation of Cognos Analytics and Powerplay Transformer 11.x.  When inserting or updating a data source in the model encounter error:
CCL-BIT-0005 A socket reported a communication error.
CAM_Connect=0xfffffff4 <errorDetail><errorCode>-12</errorCode><errorMessage>CAM-CRP-0026 The underlying socket: 'dispatcher_ip:9300' returned an error. </errorMessage><errorStack><errorCode>10048</errorCode><errorMessage>Could not connect the socket, errno: 0x2740(10048)

Cause

Powerplay Transformer build number 11.0.0.11 that comes with Cognos Analytics 11.1.3 or older release and the Cognos Analytics dispatcher URIs use SSL configured to use TLS 1.2 only.

Resolving The Problem

Powerplay Transformer 11.0.0.11 does not support TLS 1.2. 
Transformer 11.0.0.68 released with Cognos Analytics 11.1.4 and later Transformer versions support TLS 1.2.   
It is recommended that you upgrade to a version of Powerplay Transformer provided with a Cognos Analytics 11.1.7 or later.

If you are using Transformer 11.0.0.11, then reconfigure Cognos Analytics server and enable TLS 1.1.
  • Open Cognos Configuration for the Cognos Analytics server.
  • Go to Cryptography > SSL Protocols.
  • Select option that includes TLS 1.1.
  • Save Configuration and restart Cognos services.
