Can't Disable the Create New Record Button when Using an Application via a Quick Insert Portlet

Troubleshooting

Problem

An application is updated using the Application Designer application so that the New Record toolbar button is only active on the List View tab. This works as expected when the application is used from the Go To menu or from another application. When used from a Quick Insert portlet, the New Record toolbar button is active.

Symptom

Using the Assets application as an example:

1) Go To -> System Configuration -> Platform Configuration -> Application Designer

2) Filter for and select the ASSET application
3) Click on Select Action
4) Click on Add/Modify Toolbar Menu
5) Filter for and select Key Value: INSERT
6) Modify its Tabs from ALL to LIST

7) Click OK and then save the application definition (at 7.6.x the application is saved automatically)

8) Navigate to the Assets Application

9) Click on the New Asset icon in the toolbar

10) Observe that New Asset icon in the toolbar is now disabled on the Asset tab as expected

11) Open the Quick Insert portlet in the Start Center
12) Click on Edit Portlet
13) Click on Select Actions
14) Type Asset in the Description filter and hit enter
15) Select New Asset and click OK

16) Click OK then click Finished

17) Click on the New Asset link in the Quick Insert Portlet in the Start Center

18) The Assets application opens on the Asset tab to create the new asset. The New Asset toolbar button is active

Resolving The Problem

This is working as designed. The toolbar indicators are only adhered to when using the applications themselves. They are not used when accessing applications via the Start Center
