Can the link mapping be changed in a DOORS link module

Question & Answer

Question

Is it possible to change the mapping of an existing link module in IBM Rational DOORS?

Cause

You need to reset the cardinality of one to one module linking from many to many.

Answer

No, it is not possible to change the mapping of an already existing link module.

Once the link module is created, there exists no option to change the mapping that was defined;
in this case allowing links to and from multiple objects in multiple modules (Many to Many)
to a linking structure where one object can link to one other object. (One to one) type mapping.

A new link module needs to be created with the desired mapping and the link information needs be copied from the existing one.

  1. The link information can be copied by creating a traceability column in the source module using Analysis Wizard to show only the Absolute number of the target module

  2. After generating a layout DXL column, convert it into a DXL attribute of type text
    Now all the links will be saved to this attribute

  3. Use Link by attribute function to recreate links choosing the appropriate link module
    with the necessary mapping and the DXL attribute you created
