Bar code validation priority, function validation types, and bar code type setups

Resolving The Problem

The following information explains how bar code validation works in Yantra DCS:

The validation type is configured for each function using the Val Type field in the function's profile. Use 09753- Function Profile Setup to configure each function in Yantra DCS.

The various bar code type records for the val type are considered in order of priority. You can configure the priority using 09308 Bar Code Val Prty Setup.

The number typed or scanned in the function or screen could be a UPC Case Code, Item Bar Code, Case Id or 3S Label. Each of these corresponds to a bar code type and should have a corresponding definition setup in 09307- Bar Code Type Setup to describe how the application should validate the data input on the screen. Each data input on screen for a bar code type is validated based on the From Position, Variable Length, To Position and Val Source setup here.
If the val source is 01 - bar code then DCS uses the bar code translation data (setup using 09309) to translate and validate the bar code. For other Val source values it uses the case_id table or the whse_item_master table to validate the entry scanned.
If the variable length is set to Y, DCS validates based on the entire code scanned from the "From position". Otherwise DCS validates only for the input between the "From Position" and the "To Position".

Also note that, for optimization, if you have only one bar code of a particular length (fixed or variable) that is valid for the current data entered, this bar code will be picked up regardless of its priority.
