    * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:                                         *
    * LOAD utility currently does not have *
    * support for a 3-byte packed decimal                          *
    * DATE field in the format 'YYDDDs'x. *
    ****************************************************************
    * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
    ****************************************************************
    The LOAD utility will now support a DATE field with a 3-byte
    packed decimal in the format 'YYDDDs'x. The DATE_P date-format
    will be expanded to support the 3-byte packed decimal
    requirement. The new syntax will be supported by the DATE_P
    data type without the EXTERNAL keyword specification.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • LOAD utility code is modified to add support for the new
    function LOAD DATE DATE_P which accepts a 3-byte packed
    decimal format 'YYDDDs'x as input.
    PH22944 introduces the following changes to externals.
    This APAR includes a documentation change to the LOAD
    utility. The description for DATE is added and the
    syntax diagram is changed. The description for the new
    DATE_P date-format is added under the DATE keyword and the
    syntax diagram is changed.
    DATE DATE_P
    Specifies a packed decimal representation of a date.
    The date value must be 3 bytes in length and in the DATE_P
    format ('YYDDDs'x).
    DATE---+---------------DATE_P-------------+------->
           |                                  |
           '--EXTERNAL---(-+-------------+-)--'
                           +--length-----+
                           +-date-format-+
