VM66697: DETERSE FAILS TO UNPACK SOME SERVICE PACKAGES

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• DETERSE command fails to unpack some service packages. No error
  message is issued, no output is produced.
  

Local fix

• Affected customers can bypass the problem by ordering service in
  'V6 or before' format and use the usual procedure to unpack that
  service.

  For some service packages provided by IBM Support, the DETERSE
  command completes without producing a SERVLINK file.
  No error messages are issued.
  
  Service packages consist of multiple members with an internal
  directory. For some packages, the directory contains additional
  entries before the service payload. DETERSE was not designed
  to look beyond the first few entries and finds no payload.
  
  Users using GETSHOPZ for direct-to-host or workstation-upload
  of service packages are not affected by this problem.
  

Problem conclusion

• The DETERSE logic has been changed to inspect the entire
  directory rather than just the first entries. This will
  ensure the service payload is found and extracted even
  when additional entries are present.
