Error description

  • Linux guests using the HiperSockets Bridge on a VSwitch lose
connectivity after relocation and source system is SHUTDOWN.
The issue relates to moving the Active Bridgeport Controller
and Take-Over activity on the Global VSwitch when shutting
    down the source system.

    ****************************************************************
In preparation for a shutdown of an SSI member, all guests using
HiperSockets connected to a VSwitch via a HiperSockets Bridge
were relocated to a second SSI member and maintained
connectivity. When the first member was shutdown, there was no
connectivity to the HiperSockets guests on the second member.
To restore connectivity, the first member had to be brought
back up or the VSwitch had to be detached and recreated.

Problem conclusion

  • In the case of a shutdown, there is an abnormal termination of
the OSA uplink devices associated with a Global VSwitch. This
failure caused the OSA to go into a "MAC Address take-over"
operation and a remaining active network connection sharing the
same LAG port will take over data transfer operations through
the IVL data plane. This remains until the failing OSA
is restored. It is the interaction of the take-over operation
with the movement of the Active HiperSockets bridgeport
controller that leads to the connectivity loss.
To address this, shutdown processing is updated to gracefully
terminate the network connections for the uplinks associated
with Global VSwitches and any Bridge Ports.
