This APAR enhances the existing environment variable design to
provide a programmatic interface for determining z/VM
functionality. As new function is introduced to z/VM's control
program, new variables will be defined by CP and reflected in
the output of the class G QUERY VARIABLE command. These CP
defined variables will be denoted with the "CP." qualifier and
can be seen in the full list of all CP and user defined
variables, or queried individually for specific function
indication. The "CP." qualifier is reserved by IBM,
and associated variables cannot be modified by users of
    z/VM.

As functions that have a variable defined are enhanced or
modified, the variable value may be updated to reflect the
enhancement made. As such, the response to the QUERY VARIABLE
command may indicate the level, limit, or other attribute of
the updated function, not just its existence in the running
    CP instance.

A full list of all valid CP environment variables and their
respective data types can be found at:

To support this APAR, new editions of the following
    publications will be provided:

SC24-6268, z/VM: CP Commands and Utilities Reference
    GC24-6286, z/VM: General Information

For more information about the publication changes, refer to
the Summary of Changes section located near the beginning of
    each publication.

See http://www.vm.ibm.com/library/ for the online version
    of the updated publications.
