APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • This support allows 1-END HyperPAV minidisks.
Previously, guests HyperPAV usage was limited to dedicated
or fullpack minidisks. This will protect cylinder zero
    from guest writes.

z/VM's HyperPAV support is extended to also allow for a
1-END minidisk on a real HyperPAV base device to be used
as a virtual HyperPAV base device. Lifting the former
restriction on using a dedicated device or a fullpack
    (0-END) minidisk.

Comments

  • To make use of the z/VM HyperPAV support the following MDISK
statements (or DEFINE MDISK equivalent) can be used:

MDISK vdev 3390 0 END volid mode
MDISK vdev 3390 1 END volid mode
          ----

Where the latter requires the new support.
Note: volid must still refer to a real HyperPAV base volume.

Any so defined virtual HyperPAV base device qualifies for
    being used on a subsequent:

DEFINE HYPERPAVALIAS vdev FOR BASE vdev
                                       ----

All related CP command output (DEFINE, QUERY VIRTUAL PAV)
considers these defined devices without external change.

         (0-END) minidisk or a 1-END minidisk.
