When runnning z/VM 6.4 on an IBM z14 processor with one or more
4768 Crypto Express6 cards, the crypto resources may not be
assigned for shared use during z/VM system IPL and cannot be
used for sharing once the system is up and running. This problem
may also occur when running on an IBM z15 processor and Crypto
Express6 cards are installed with no Crypto Express7 cards. The
QUERY CRYPTO command response shows each of the configured
Crypto Express6 coprocessors and accelerators as available,
free, and unspecified. This happens after applying APAR
VM66248, new function support for the IBM 4769 Crypto Card
CEX7S, when the CRYPTO APVIRTUAL statement in the SYSTEM
CONFIGURATION file is not used to specify the AP and domain
numbers of the Crypto Express6 resources which are intended to
    be used for sharing.

Problem conclusion

  • HCPKAP is changed to ensure that Crypto Express6 resources are
found during z/VM system IPL when they haven't been specified
on the CRYPTO APVIRTUAL statement in the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
file. The z/VM system will then operate as it did prior to this
problem. If no CRYPTO APVIRTUAL statement is specified in the
SYSTEM CONFIGURATION file, CP will choose the best crypto
resources to be included in the shared pool. If the CRYPTO
APVIRTUAL statement is specified in the SYSTEM CONFIGURATION
file, CP will attempt to add the specified crypto resources to
    the shared pool.
