APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • A successful planned Hyperswap occurred. Seconds after, all
Linux guest filesystems went R/O and shutdown. This forced
    all guests to be re-cycled.

    ****************************************************************
The path mask (RDEVLPM) of a source device has no overlapping
path mask bits of the target device it's being swapped with
during a Hyperswap. This can cause a guest, such as Linux to
continue issuing I/O down a LPM that is no longer valid. This
will result in CC3s and recovery for the guest will continue
to fail until retries are exhausted. For Linux, this results
in its file system going R/O. This will require a re-IPL of the
    Linux guest.

Problem conclusion

  • Code has been added to address the situation where no over-
lapping path mask bits exist between source and target of a
Hyperswap. In this case, the PNOM will be set and correctly
reflected to the guest so proper recovery can take place at
    the guest level.
