Error description

  • The SPEC stage in a pipeline may occasionally result in an
assert failure 182 due to uninitialized memory.

The assert failure produces a series of messages starting
    with

FPLINX409E Assert failure 00000182 at xxxxxxxx
    FPLINX411I ... In LOADSPAC; offset 00001040 in FPLSPS 06/22/18
    11.40

After the dumped register content, a FPLMSG001I is issued
    pointing to a SPEC stage.

    * RECOMMENDATION: APPLY PTF                                    *
    ****************************************************************
The SPEC stage failed to initialize a local work area used to
hold an intermediate expression result. After processing the
item from the specification list, the cleanup code inspected the
uninitialized location. This could incorrectly invoke the string
cleanup routine that would fail on the integrity check.
Even very simple use of the SPEC stage could be impacted.

Problem conclusion

  • CMS Pipelines has been changed to ensure the local work area is
initialized for each specification list item.

During development, another defect in the module was corrected
that could cause an Assert Failure A5 in routine BUFFERSE in
module FPLFRE for a SPEC stage with multiple streams.
