Error description

• In some situations, when an ESM is being used, the XAUTOLOG
  command fails and returns an unexpected return code.
  
  This can cause programs like SMAPI to report
  unexpected errors when activating a z/VM userid.

  When a user is being logged on to the z/VM system which utilizes
  an External Security Manager (ESM) and an error occurs, the
  error message might not be displayed. This may be noticed by a
  program which issues the XAUTOLOG command, such as the z/VM
  Systems Management Application Programming Interface (SMAPI).
  In this case the program may see an invalid response code four,
  which is not expected by SMAPI, resulting in an undocumented
  return code for the programming interface, such as the
  Image_Activate API.
  

Problem conclusion

• HCPLGA is fixed to ensure that the proper error message is
  displayed when an External Security Manager (ESM) indicates a
  failure during the logon process.
