VM66282: VARY ON OF EDEV TAKING LONGER THAN 10 SECONDS PER PATH

Error description

• When environmental factors cause an EDEV path to come online
  slowly, the z/VM SCSI driver is inadvertently introducing an
  additional 10 second delay to the VARY ON process.

  When environmental factors in the SAN network cause a delay in
  an FCP device logging into the fabric, the z/VM SCSI driver may
  introduce an unnecessary delay of 10 seconds to the process.
  This delay is on a per-path basis so a user attempting to VARY
  ON an EDEVICE with 2 paths, both of which have FCP devices
  encountering login delays, could see an additional 20 second
  delay before the VARY command completes.
  

Problem conclusion

• The z/VM SCSI driver has been updated to properly cap its retry
  interval, eliminating the potential for unnecessarily long
  delays.
