    ****************************************************************
With the PTF for APAR VM66271, z/VM 7.2 provides support for the
dynamic reclamation of memory. Dynamic memory downgrade (DMD),
also known as memory reclamation or storage reclamation, extends
the real storage dynamic management characteristics of z/VM to
include defining up to 50% of real storage as reconfigurable,
which can be removed from a running z/VM system.

This support allows a system administrator to take real memory
offline from a z/VM partition, making it available to other
partitions in the central processor complex (CPC). The removal
is dynamic; no re-IPLing of the z/VM image is required to
accomplish the change in the memory configuration. Only memory
that is configured as reconfigurable may be removed without an
IPL. This support also includes the ability to set the PAGING
warning threshold and keeping or removing dynamic storage
    changes on restart.

Memory reclamation by a first-level z/VM system can be performed
on the IBM z14 (or later) family of servers (or equivalent).

    See https://www.vm.ibm.com/perf/reports/zvm/html/ for details of
the performance characteristics of running with reconfigurable
    memory and reclaiming reconfigurable memory.

To support this APAR, new editions of the following publications
    are available:

    GC24-6286-09, z/VM: General Information
    GC24-6294-08, z/VM: Migration Guide

This APAR provides updated help files for the following CP
Commands and Utilities: QUERY STORAGE, SET RESERVED, and
    SET STORAGE.

This APAR provides updated help files for the following
    messages: HCP1810I, HCP1812I, and HCP2585E.

Note that the majority of the command and utility changes to
support DMD were provided in APAR VM66173 which, in addition
to 4TB support, included DMD infrastructure changes.
