VM66258: ABENDLDD003 SOFT ABEND DIAGNOSE X'7C' PRESENT

APAR status

Error description

• Soft Abend LDD003 occurs during a diagnose X'7C' PRESENT when
  the logical subchannel is still busy from a previous PRESENT.
  During PRESENT processing HCPLDDPR calls HCPLSMUU to store
  status into the logical SCHIB.  HCPLSMUU gives RC=4 because the
  logical subchannel is still active.  This leads to soft abend
  LDD003.  In many cases more time is needed for the logical
  subchannel to clear from the earlier PRESENT.

  Abend LDD003 (soft) occurs during a Diagnose X'7C' PRESENT
  subfunction when HCPLSMUU gives RC=4 back to HCPLDDPR.  This
  return code indicates that the unit status could not be updated
  in the logical subchannel because the device is still busy from
  a previous PRESENT.
  

Problem conclusion

• HCPLDDPR was changed to give CC=2 and RC=2 from a Diagnose X'7C'
  PRESENT subfunction when HCPLSMUU gives RC=4, unless this occurs
  on 2 consecutive PRESENTs.  Soft Abend LDD003 will occur when
  HCPLSMUU gives RC=4 on the second consecutive PRESENT.
