VM66213: HANGS DUE TO SUMMARY UNIT CHECK AND DEADLOCK

Error description

• This APAR addresses two problems:
  1) A hang condition due to summary unit check recovery
  not occurring
  2) A hang condition due to a RDEVLOCK deadlock scenario

  This APAR fixes two problems:
  1- A hang was seen during the reset of a summary unit condition
  for a PPRC Suspend event.  Reset processing ran into an
  IFCC condition and recovery I/O was allowed that does not work
  through a summary unit check and hangs.
  2- A hang was seen during system IPL due to a deadlock
  scenario for a HyperPAV Alias's RDEVLOCK.
  

Problem conclusion

• The solution to the two problems fixed by this APAR are:
  1- IFCC recovery was modified to allow a reset of a summary
  unit check condition to occur before any I/O is issued that
  does not work through a summary unit check condition.
  2- System initialization was modified to not hold the RDEVLOCK
  of a HyperPAV Alias device while obtaining the RDEVLOCK of
  a HyperPAV Base device.
