APAR status

  • Closed as new function.

Error description

  • z/XC Architecture Support allows a z/Architecture virtual
machine to exploit VM Data Spaces.
It is an extension of the existing product that introduces
a new virtual machine architecture mode, dubbed "z/XC".
The value of this line item from the customer's viewpoint is
that z/Architecture CMS can use existing facilities that
exploit data spaces such as SFS DIRCONTROL directories.

This APAR provides support for VM Data Spaces in an XC virtual
machine that has switched into z/Architecture mode. Along with
CMS APAR VM66425, this allows z/Architecture CMS (z/CMS) to use
VM Data Spaces for functions such as accessing Shared File
System (SFS) Directory Control (DIRCONTROL) directories.
Performance Toolkit provides support for z/XC virtual machines
    in APAR VM66489.

Problem conclusion

Temporary fix

Comments

  • z/XC Architecture support will add a new virtual machine
architecture mode that enables CMS applications running in
z/Architecture to take advantage of multiple address spaces. A
z/XC guest will be able to exploit VM Data Spaces with
z/Architecture in the same way that an ESA/XC guest can exploit
them with Enterprise Systems Architecture. This support will
allow z/Architecture CMS (z/CMS) to use VM Data Spaces for
functions such as accessing Shared File System (SFS) Directory
Control (DIRCONTROL) directories. It will also allow use of
programs employing z/Architecture instructions and registers
(within the limits of z/CMS support) and exploiting data spaces
in the same CMS session. For details of z/XC architecture see
    z/VM: z/Architecture Extended Configuration (z/XC) Principles
    of Operation (SC27-4940-00).

VM66425 must be applied to CMS in order to use VM Data Spaces
with ZCMS in an XC mode virtual machine.

VM66489 must be applied to Performance Toolkit in order to
get support for z/XC virtual machines.
