This APAR provides guest exploitation and
dynamic I/O support for the IBM Adapter for
NVMe available on the IBM Emperor II and
Rockhopper II servers running driver D36.
Specifically, this adds the ability to
dynamically add NVMe PCI functions to a
partition and attach NVMe PCI functions
to guest virtual machines that exploits NVMe.

Comments

  • Support is provided for the IBM Adapter for NVMe PCI function
on IBM LinuxONE servers as follows:
    ----
z/VM HCD and the CP DEFINE PCIF dynamic I/O command
were updated to provide the ability to dynamically create
LPAR access to the new NVMe PCIe adapter type.
    -
CP was updated to recognize the new NVMe PCI Function type and
allow an NVMe function to be VARYed online and attached to
    a guest.
    -
The QUERY PCIF command response was updated to display the new
NVMe PCI Function type for an NVMe PCI function.
    -
The QUERY VIRTUAL PCIF command response was updated to display
the new NVMe PCI Function type for an NVMe PCI function
attached to a guest virtual machine.
    -
Existing montior records that include PCI Function types were
updated to include the NVMe PCI function type.
    ------------------
    Publication Updates:
The CP Command and Utilities Reference manual for z/VM 6.4.0 and
z/VM 7.1.0. were updated to include the NVMe PCI function type
