Error description

  • VM65989 provided improvements for CP dumps created with the
    SNAPDUMP command.

This APAR expands on these improvements by
including certain PGMBKs in CP dumps, that would otherwise be
omitted. Other improvements to CP dump processing are included.

    This APAR addresses the following:

    (1) Depending on system settings, SYSTEM PGMBKs may not be
included in CP dumps. This causes problems with the SPCON
macro of the VM Dump Tool.

    (2) If CP is running as a second level system with more than
4 GB of storage and dump space is defined on VDISK, a
SNAPDUMP can cause an ABENDHTT001 or ABENDSIT002 to occur,
and system termination will fail with a 9276 disabled wait
    state.

    (3) HCPDMP savearea usage can produce misleading data, causing
    debugging problems.

    (4) If spool space for dump is on the first 65519 cylinders
of an Extended Address Volume (EAV), a Fatal I/O error can
occur when writing the dump. This prevents the dump from
    being created.

Problem conclusion

  • (1) PGMBK control blocks owned by SYSTEM are always included
in dumps, which allows the SPCON macro in VM Dump Tool to work
    as expected.

    (2) This APAR cleans up 64 bit register usage in HCPDMP
to avoid abends that may occur during SNAPDUMP on a second
    level system.

    (3) HCPDMP savearea usage is improved to provide better
    debugging information.

    (4) HCPDMP is updated to correctly compute the high cylinder
number of the SPOOL space cylinders on an EAV device when a CP
dump is being written to it.
