VM66101: NEW ERROR RC EXPOSES POTENTIAL SSI SOFT ABENDS 19/12/13 PTF PECHANGE

APAR status

Error description

• An oversight in APAR VM66235 that can lead to abends
  in SSI clusters when links are unreliable or are starting and
  stopping with high frequency.
  
  Checks for the new return code introduced by the
  APAR were not added to several places that performed analysis
  of socket failures.

  APAR VM66235 introduced a new ISFC sockets error condition to
  allow messages that are pending transmission across a link state
  transition (from up to down and back up again) to be discarded.
  However, some code paths that use sockets and check for explicit
  error conditions were not changed to accommodate this new one.
  If such an error occurs, a soft abend could result. The error
  can occur only if links are unstable.
  

Problem conclusion

• Code has been changed to detect the new error condition and
  avoid a soft abend.
