PQ02042: NEW FUNTION TO PROVIDE C/370 ICONV() SUPPORT FOR JAPANESE ISO-2022-JP

Error description

• C/370 iconv() converters between Host (OS/390) Japanese coded
  character sets, IBM-930 and IBM-939, and TCP/IP Japanese
  coded character sets IBM-956, IBM-957, IBM-958, IBM-959,
  IBM-5052, IBM-5053, IBM-5054, and IBM-5055 are required for
  support of Japanese character transmission through the internet.

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Japanese OS/390 systems are configured  *
  *                      for IBM-930 or IBM-939 (Host) encoding  *
  *                      of Japanese characters. If ISO-2022_JP  *
  *                      encoding is used to send Japanese       *
  *                      characters through the network, then    *
  *                      OS/390 services must be available to    *
  *                      convert between Host and ISO-2022-JP    *
  *                      encoding schemes.                       *
  *                                                              *
  *                      Without this APAR such services are     *
  *                      not available to open OS/390            *
  *                      applications which use the XPG4         *
  *                      family of iconv interfaces to request   *
  *                      character encoding conversion. This     *
  *                      APAR adds support to iconv for          *
  *                      converting between Host encoding and    *
  *                      ISO-2022-JP encoding of Japanese        *
  *                      characters.                             *

  *                      It also adds support to OS/390 iconv    *
  *                      for conversion of IBM-5052 encoding     *
  *                      of Japanese characters and Host         *
  *                      (IBM-930 or IBM-939) encoding.          *
