PM98142: QMF LOOPS AND HANGS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• QMF hangs.
  The DB2 Master log shows the following messages over and over
  
   DSN3201I  -DST2 ABNORMAL EOT IN PROGRESS FOR
   CONNECTION-ID=DB2CALL CORRELATION-ID=iiiiii
  
  The QMF DSQDEBUG trace shows something like the following.
  - During QMF initialization,
  - QMF tries to execute a PREPARE of the statement
    then DB2 returns ABEND04E
  - QMF tries to recover from the abend by reconnecting,
    QMF reconnects and then goes to run the same SQL abends,
    ....reconnects..abends ... over and over.
    (getting the same abend04E over and over on the same SQL).

Problem summary

  * USERS AFFECTED: All QMF for TSO/CICS users.                  *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: QMF can loop during initialization if a *
  *                      database abend occurs during server     *
  *                      initialization. During the loop, the    *
  *                      user can see the database abending      *
  *                      repeatedly as QMF executes the          *
  *                      same SQL to the database that causes    *
  *                      the abend. No QMF messages are          *
  *                      issued, but the session indicator on    *
  *                      the emulator's Operator Information     *
  *                      Area indicates the keyboard is locked,  *
  *                      as QMF tries to initialize.             *

  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  ****************************************************************
  During certain segments of QMF server initialization, QMF error
  logic was not recovering properly from fatal errors (such as the
  database's abending). QMF tried to recover and reconnect and
  had no logic to stop the reconnect process during
  initialization.
  

Problem conclusion

• QMF initialization has been corrected to exit if a database
  abend is encountered on the first attempt to connect to the
  server.
