APAR status

Error description

  • The external file I/O verb may use the wrong version of the I/O
routines and abend.  The user may get S002 Reason code 18 ABEND.

USERS AFFECTED: Enterprise COBOL users of QSAM, VSAM or Line
Sequential external files that are shared between COBOL programs
built with the pre-V5 and V5 or later compilers.

Local fix

  • Do not mix COBOL V5.1 programs with prior versions of COBOL
programs when using external files.
