Error description
After updating a BPMN model's documentation, saving the change, closing and reopening the model, pink rectangles with the 'Invalid view' message appear on the diagram and HTML reports are generated with the message: 'org.xml.sax.SAXParseException: The entity name must immediately follow the '&' in the entity reference.' The root cause of the problem is that model elements have names with the ampersand ('&') character. After changing and saving the BPMN model, the '&' is replaced by the ASCII code value, namely '%26', wherever there are references to other BPMN models. Workaround: Refrain from using the ampersand character in your BPMN models that have dependencies to other models.

Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When a model containing event names like "Task ? product" is modified and saved, the model opens with an exception when closed and opened.
Problem conclusion
The parameter OPTION_SKIP_ESCAPE_URI was set to its default value(true) during save, which was skipping characters like "?". Setting it to false solves the issue.
