Error description
Currently TPNS only has the ability to read and write to QSAM files via the ITPFIOX user exit. This change will allow users to write their own file handling routine which can interface with TPNS scripts. An intermittent S0C4 abend while running the log comparison program ITPCOMP in WSIM. The problem appears to occur when there are significant differences in a changed screen. The problem appears to occur due to an issue with the Partition Control Block addressing. This change for TPNS will ensure a similar problem does not occur in this product.

The problem appears to occur * * when there are significant differences * * in a changed screen. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** ITPFIOX is limited to handling QSAM files and only allowing OPEN, READ, WRITE and CLOSE as options. This restricts what data the customer can read in from or pass to WSIM. It also restricts how WSIM can provide data for external use. The program ITP3CLPA abends due to a null address for the pointer to the Partition Control Block. This causes the addressing of areas of memory that are not accessible to the program. This occurred in WSIM and this change in TPNS will ensure a similar incident doesn't occur in this product. +-------------------------------------------------------------+ + Please check our Communications Server for OS/390 homepages + + for common networking tips and fixes. Problem conclusion
A new User Exit program called ITPUIOX has been written. This program is a skeleton program that has links into WSIM information and storage areas. It also has places where a customer can add in their own file handling routines to pass data to or read data from an external file. While it has essentially the same options as ITPFIOX - OPEN, READ, WRITE, CLOSE - it has the potential for additional options to be coded or for modifying these basic four options. A test was added to make sure the pointer to the Partition Control block was valid and usable. Sample code to turn an unformatted CTRACE file containing the trace entries for TCP/IP processing into a TPNS script. * Cross Reference between External and Internal Names SPA_NAME (IDSS_NAM)
