Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All users of IBM WebSphere Application * * Server V7.0, V8.0, and V8.5 * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: Under certain circumstances, during * * XA recovery, some entries in the XA * * Partner logs may be considered as not * * eligible for recovery even though the * * attempt to recover should be made. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** In a particular RACF environment, the Resource Manager token associated with RRS will be deleted at server shutdown, provided that there are no RRS transactions to recover. As such, when the server is restarted, a new RM token will be generated for the server, and the recovery epoch will be reset to 1. However, there is no check made during server shutdown that all XA resources have been recovered successfully - deleting the Resource Manager token with XA resources still undergoing recovery can potentially result in XA resources being unrecovered at the next server startup.
Problem conclusion
Only allow the deletion of the Resource Manager token in the particular RACF environment if there are no RRS transactions to recover and all XA resources have been recovered. APAR PM68687 is currently targeted for inclusion in Fix Packs 7.0.0.27, 8.0.0.6, and 8.5.0.2 of WebSphere Application Server.
