PM61234: SORT FAILED RETURN CODE IS 16 RUNNING ORF - DB WITH NON UNIQUE SEGMENTS

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• This APAR is addressing two problems:
  - ORF run fails because SORT issues RC16. While ORF is tracking
    non unique segments, SORT is running out of storage.
  - FITS MR1220115027 which addresses the way ORF handles DB's
    with non-unique keys.

Problem summary

  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When ORF is processing a large DB with  *
  *                      non-unique segments, the job fails      *
  *                      because of RC16 from SORT.              *
  ****************************************************************
  * RECOMMENDATION:                                              *
  ****************************************************************
  When ORF is processing a large DB with non-unique segments, the
  internal RBA mapper uses up too much storage and it causes SORT
  to fail with RC16 due to storage shortage.
  

Problem conclusion

• The RBA mapper is revised and enhanced to have an array of
  mapping tables selected by the old RBA/ILK.
  This APAR is also fixing the following problems:
   - The file size parameter passed to SORT was only 7 digits.
    This is increased to 11 digits.
   - When a BMP updates non-unique root segments during
    ORF reorganization, the APPLY phase possibly fails with
    "HRF01520E call ended with 'AJ' status code" message.
   - Online CONVERT function of HALDB Toolkit possibly gets U0852
    abend in the APPLY phase.
