PM05057: OMPE SERVER INSTANCE IS TERMINATED WHEN TCPIP RETURNED ERRNO=10218 CODE AFTER INITAPI CALL

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• When TCPIP is not fully initialzed it may return ERRNO code
  10218 as a response to INITAPI call made by OMPE TCPIP subtask
  (module DGOVTCPL). In this case OMPE server performs one retry
  and then the whole OMPE server instance is terminated.

  PROBLEM SUMMARY:
  Customer starts TCPIP and OMEGAMON Collector started task
  practically simultaneously. A TCP/IP main task of the PE Server
  subtask starts, issues INITAPI call and receives return code -1
  along with the sockets return code (ERRNO) 10218 indicating that
  TCPIP is not active because its self-initialization process is
  still not completed. The TCP/IP main task terminates with the
  error code 4095. PE Server subtask reattaches once the task (its
  name is DGOVTCPL) and terminates this specific instance when the
  try completes unsuccessfully.
  
  PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
  The code of PE Server subtask has been modified so that:
  1. In response to the sockets return code 10218 (as well as
  1036) PE Server subtask issues the messages FPEV1329I <DB2ssid>
  TCP/IP NOT STARTED. SERVER INSTANCE ATTEMPTS TO ESTABLISH A
  TCP/IP CONNECTION EVERY MINUTE and repeats the INITAPI calls
  until TCPIP becomes active
  2. In response to all other sockets return codes which indicate
  unrecoverable TCPIP errors PE Server subtask terminates a TCP/IP
  main task for a certain instance affected but doesn't terminate
  the instance itself thereby allows users of other clients of the
  OMEGAMON Collector except Performance Expert Client to monitor
  this specific DB2 subsystem.
