Error description

  • This APAR will address the following problems:
    - Database is offline too long.
Detail: ORF scheduled a DB close. It was successful, but was
not recognized for quite some time. In our case for 20
minutes. This happened on a system with very little activity.
ORF checks that a close was successful by looking at the
type21 log record using the logger exit. That record is
in the log buffer, but not written due to little traffic. ORF
tries to create some traffic by issuing a /CHE STATS command
up to 10 times every 5 seconds. It appears that this did not
      create enough log records.
    - ORF does not support image copies created by HPIC. This
eliminates many functions (i.e. stacking, dynamic allocation
      of tape units).
    - User has a higher version of TOSI. That eliminates the
version coming with ORF. However, the new version requires
      "generic exits".
    - User needs to specify all SMS constructs, but SETOP does not
provide all for temporary RECON. SETOP only provides dataclas
      and storclas.

The following problems are being corrected in this APAR:
1.ORF database is offline too long. ORF scheduled a DB close
It was successful, but was not recognized for quite some time.
In this case, for 20 minutes. This happened on a system with
very little activity. ORF checks that a close was successful
by looking at the x'21' log record using the logger exit.
That record is in the log buffer, but not written due to
little traffic. ORF tries to create some traffic by issuing
/CHE STATS command up to 10 times every 5 seconds. It appears
that this did not create enough log records.
2.User needs to specify all SMS constructs, but SETOP does
not provide all for temporary RECON. SETOP only provides
    dataclas and storclas.
3.User has a higher version of TOSI. This eliminates the
version coming with ORF. However, the new version requires
    "generic exits".
4.User wants to specify the HPIC parameter. ORF does not
support image copies created by HPIC. This eliminates many
functions (i.e. stacking, dynamic allocation of tape units).

Problem conclusion

  • The following changes have been made to correct the above
    mentioned problems:
1.We changed the interval from 5 seconds to 2 seconds. If
that was not enough, we issue a /CHE command every 2 seconds.
    2.mgmtclass has been added
    3.ORF now supports both versions.
4.HPIC now returns the IC detail back to ORF so that it can
register them at the TAKEOVER phase.
There is a new parameter added with this change: ICEIN(Y|ddn)
Y: the IC statements are provided in the ICEIN file
ddn: the IC statements are provided in <ddn>.
The user must provide all necessary ICE statements.
Here is a sample of ICEIN statements:
    //ICEIN    DD *
    GLOBAL DBRC=N,DBDALLOC=N,ICDALLOC=Y,ICHLQ=CKOE.IC,UNIT=SYSALLDA
    AIC DBD=HDV8,DDN=HDV801,ICOUT=*
    AIC DBD=SIV81,DDN=SIV8101,ICOUT=*
The AIC command is supported only
The DBRC parameter must be N (unless HALDB)
The DBDALLOC parameter must be N
The ICOUT or STACK parameter must be specified
