Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All DB2 users of packages. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: A new DB2 subsystem parameter is * * provided to allow compression to be * * turned on or off for DB2 directory * * space SPT01. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** This APAR adds an opaque DB2 subsystem parameter called COMPRESS_SPT01 to DSN6SPRM that can be used to indicate whether the SPT01 directory space should be compressed. Valid settings are NO and YES, the default setting is NO, and the setting can be changed online. In DB2 data sharing, all members should use the same setting for COMPRESS_SPT01. Do not use COMPRESS_SPT01=YES before you have applied this PTF to all members of the group. The value of COMPRESS_SPT01 affects what happens during a REORG. If it is YES on a member when a REORG is run on SPT01 then SPT01 will be compressed.

Comments
The code has been modified to support using a DB2 subsystem parameter to change the compression attribute for SPT01 table space. *** ++Hold for PK80375 . Note: Customers who receive return code 8 and message "ASMA939U Unable to load external function module - DSNTIXL" when applying this PTF need to refer to Info APAR II13979. . This PTF adds a new DB2 subsystem parameter, COMPRESS_SPT01, for enabling and disabling compression of the DB2 SPT01 table space. Valid settings are NO and YES. The default is NO. . *** Special guidance for data sharing customers: - Do not use COMPRESS_SPT01=YES before you have applied this PTF to all members of the group. - Use the same setting for COMPRESS_SPT01 on all members of the group. . If you have already installed or migrated to DB2, you need to take the following actions after applying this PTF: (1) Update your DB2 subsystem parameter (DSNZPxxx) modules: -> This action is optional if you use the default setting of COMPRESS_SPT01=NO -> Attention data sharing customers: - Do not use COMPRESS_SPT01=YES before you have applied this PTF to all members of the group. - Use the same setting for COMPRESS_SPT01 on all members of the group. * Add the keyword parameter COMPRESS_SPT01=<n>, where <n> is either NO or YES to the invocation of the DSN6SPRM macro in your customized version of the installation job DSNTIJUZ. Make sure to add a continuation character in column 72 if needed. If you omit adding COMPRESS_SPT01 here, the value will be set to the default of NO when you assemble the DSNZPxxx * Run the first two steps of the DSNTIJUZ job you modified, to assemble and link the load module. * After the job completes, you must either use the SET SYSPARM command or stop and start DB2 for the change to take effect. This action is not required if you use the default setting of NO for COMPRESS_SPT01. . (2) This PTF adds an entry for COMPRESS_SPT01=NO to the CLIST default input member, DSNTIDXA, in the SDSNSAMP target library. You need to add this entry to all private copies of your CLIST output (DSNTIDxx) member. In each such copy, add the following line: . COMPRESS_SPT01 CHAR G NO YES NO . Change the second occurrence of NO to YES if you specified COMPRESS_SPT01=YES in step (1), above. . (3) Update customized copies of DB2 installation CLIST member DSNTINST: This PTF modifies CLIST member DSNTINST in the SDSNCLST target library only. You need to redo any record format changes and reapply any tailoring you have done to your copies of this CLIST. You may also want to move it to the prefix.NEW.SDSNCLST data set, where the CLISTs processed by job DSNTIJVC reside.
