Error description
Some of the Java files in the Java 6 install appear to have erroneous carriage return characters included in the ebcdic files. These carriage returns appear as "."s when displayed in some of the OMVS editors. At times when the file is edited these "."s change from x"0D"s to x"4B"s which will then cause those lines to fail. This APAR will address the removal of these erroneous characters The files demonstrating this problem include java.security and java.policy files.
Local fix
Remove '.' x"4B"s from end of the relevent lines in the file. Care should be taken when editing any of the files in the Java directories to ensure that these extra characters are handled properly
Problem summary
Carriage returns exist in some Java 6 files such as java.policy and java.security.
Problem conclusion
Carriage returns removed in Java 6 SR4.
Temporary fix
Carriage returns can be removed manually.
