Error description
The Infocenter States: "Several components of the portal need to open HTTP or HTTPs connections to other resources. The HTTP Client Service provides a central point for configuration properties to these outbound connections. You can set global settings for the SSL configuration and proxy server usage." Link: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wpdoc/v6r1m0/topi c/com.ibm.wp.ent.doc/admin/srvcfgref.html#srvcfgref__http_client However, through investigation, it was determined these classes are private and cannot be used without code changes in many of the components. The consolidation of all the components to have a single point of configuration is a portal future line item and is not committed for any release.
Local fix
The internal proxy configuration methods for each portlet must still be used. Fix InfoCenter to clarify the problematic passage. After: "Several components of the portal need to open HTTP or HTTPs connections to other resources. The HTTP Client Service provides a central point for configuration properties to these outbound connections. You can set global settings for the SSL configuration and proxy server usage." Add: "These settings do not currently replace all individual portlet prxy configuration settings. To set the proxy settings for specific portlets, consult the documentation for each portlet for how to modify their specific settings."
Problem summary
InfoCenter entry at: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/wp doc/v6r1m0/topic/com.ibm.wp.ent.doc/admin/srvcfgref.html#srvcfgr ef__http_client had incorrect information about the global proxy setting applying to all outbound connections.
Problem conclusion
Entry has been amended and confusions clarified about this issue.
