Error description
With the advent of QMF V810, the header records for data exported using the QMF EXPORT format contain column name fields that are 30 bytes long even if there are no column names greater than 18 bytes long in the table or report being exported.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** * USERS AFFECTED: All QMF for TSO/CICS V810 and V910 users * * who use the QMF EXPORT format. * **************************************************************** * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The header records for data exported * * using the QMF EXPORT format contain * * column name fields that are 30 bytes * * long even if there are no column * * names greater than 18 bytes long * * in the table or report being * * exported. This is a change from * * header records in releases prior * * to V81, thus altering the format * * of exported records for tables and * * reports that have not changed * * across QMF releases. * **************************************************************** * RECOMMENDATION: * **************************************************************** When long name support was added in QMF V81, all QMF export header records were written with 30 byte column name fields, irrespective of whether there were any long column names in the report data or table being exported.
Problem conclusion
Since many users may have adjusted applications to process all column name fields in QMF exported data as 30 byte fields, a new global variable has been introduced with this APAR to give users the option of generating QMF EXPORT headers with 18 byte column name fields if no column names in the report exceed 18 bytes. If ONE column name is greater than 18 bytes, ALL column name fields in the header will be 30 bytes. The new global variable is DSQDC_SHORT_EXPT, which defaults to 0 (off). It must be changed to 1 (on) in order to generate 18 byte column name fields. This change does not affect IXF or XML exported data.
