PK66553: GEN/DDL MISSING NOT PADDED FOR PRE DB2 R810 CREATED INDEX WITH VARCHAR COLUMN

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The DB2 Administration Tool GEN and DDL functions do not
  product the correct syntax for an index created before DB2 R810
  NFM and having a VARCHAR column. GEN/DDL did not produce "NOT
  PADDED" or "PADDED" for the CREATE INDEX statement.

• Manual add the PADDED syntax
  

Problem summary

  *                 before DB2 version 8.                        *
  ****************************************************************
  * PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: The GEN and DDL commands do not add     *
  *                      the PADDED  attribute to the CREATE     *
  *                      INDEX DDL.                              *

  An index with a varying length column  that was created  before
  DB2 version 8, is padded. Starting with DB2 version 8, the user
  can choose  whether an index is padded or not.  When the GEN or
  DDL command is issued to create DDL for an index with a varying
  length column  that was created before DB2 version 8, no PADDED
  attribute  was added to the CREATE INDEX statement.  If the DB2
  sub-system  PADIX value  is YES, the  index will be  created as
  PADDED, as expected.
  
  However, if the DB2 sub-system PADIX value is NO, the index will
  be created as NOT PADDED, which is not expected.
  

Problem conclusion

• The GEN and DDL  commands will now add PADDED to the CREATE
  INDEX DDL for an index that has a varying length column and
  was created before DB2 version 8.
