PK61814: VSAM DATASETS DELETED AND MESSAGE ARYS118E ISSUED RUNNING DB2 RECOVERY EXPERT OBJECT RESTORE ON Z/OS V1.7 OR LOWER

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Currently if you do an Object Restore running on z/OS level
  below V1.8, the DB2 tablespace datasets are deleted and
  then the restore determines that it can't get the objects
  back issuing the following error:
  
     ARYS118E - MVS 1.8 or higher is required to restore
                datasets from DASD using DFSMSdss
  
  The check for determining the release of z/OS needs to be
  done before the tablespace datasets are deleted.
  
  NOTE: If running on z/OS V1.8 or higher the object restore works
  successfully, this is not an issue.
  

Local fix

• DB2 Recovery Expert "System Backup and Restore Services" can
  recover objects on a z/OS 1.7 system from a system backup that
  has been offloaded to tape.
  
  You can offload your backup to tape, then re-run the object
  recovery job.
